My husband is graduating from AIT, got orders to Korea for a year but wants to extend them. Any experience?

Ok so my husband is a 25b in the Army and just got orders to yongsan very soon. He is graduating from AIT soon and going pretty much right after. He wants us to go with him. He has heard about extending his tour so he can get Command sponsorship. We are new to the Army life so we are kind of going into this blind. He has been gone for 8 months and left 10 days after our daughter was born so another year away is kind of not the best choice. I have started the medical clearances and getting our passports next week...so i just want to know experiences...there is not much for this online...any advice would be great...
